We’ve made it to Bangkok! It’s so nice to be somewhere warm for a change. This destination is special because we get to visit our dear friends David and Evelyn, who have invited us to stay at their home.
Today, we explored the area around the Grand Palace, including Wat Pho. Wat Pho is a temple complex that houses a gigantic sleeping Buddha statue. It’s hard to describe just how big the Buddha is.
The Buddhist temples here are stunning. White buildings accented with jewel colored stones and gold leaf, capped with glittering gold spires. Later in the afternoon, we took in the sunset view of Wat Arun from Amarosa (thanks for the recommendation, Geoff!).
In terms of protesting, we haven’t seen anything . Due to our location on the river, we are able to take the water taxi into downtown and circumvent the protest areas. The water taxi is actually a great way to get into town.
Our itinerary is fairly flexible now…we’ll see where the road takes us!
